Whenever holidays come, the biggest challenge is finding that right gift. Not only does it drain the wallet, it also drains the imagination, trying to find that perfect gift that the recipient will appreciate. What do you give someone, for example who has everything? Or what do you give someone who is not close enough to you for something personal? What do you give when you’re either out of time, out of money, or both? One solution to all these questions is to give them holiday gift baskets.

What are holiday gift baskets?  These are gifts that are largely perishable in nature and thus, normally consumed during the holidays or shortly thereafter. These are, in their simplest form, just baskets of goodies that are wrapped in colorful plastic, tied creatively with colorful ribbons and personalized with a gift card.

You could purchase holiday gift baskets at your favorite shop. There are also stores that specialize in putting together these types of gifts. The fun (and practicality), however, is when you, the gift-giver, make your own because you could follow a personalized theme. For example, if you have friends who crave for sweets you could make Sweet Tooth holiday gift baskets, which could include such goodies as cakes, cookies and other forms of pastry, chocolates, candies, and candies forth. For your friends on a strict sugar-controlled diet, you could substitute those sugar-rich items with their sugar-free counterparts. A bit more expensive, perhaps, but they are your friends after all, right? On the other hand, chips, delicatessen meats, nuts, pretzels, wine, beer, whiskey, and other alcoholic beverages and beer/wine buddies could be put together to create party holiday gift baskets for your friends who cherish their alcoholic binges.

What about entertainment holiday gift baskets for your friends who love staying at home? Under this theme, goodies inside the basket could be DVDs of the recipient’s favorite movies and microwaveable popcorn! That should keep them busy when all they want to do during the holidays is sit back and relax! For your pasta-loving friends, give them (what else) Pasta Lover’s holiday gift baskets, composed of their favorite pasta (spaghetti, lasagna, angel’s hair, etc.), canned meat sauce, cheese, spices, oils, and so forth. That would be so magnifico for them.

Cheese lovers would really love Cheeseboard holiday gift baskets, filled with various cheeses and wine. Do they love Mexican food? Fill the basket with taco shells, nacho chips, bottles of taco sauce, taco meat, cheese, wrap it up, and you have Ariba! Ariba! holiday gift baskets! Poker enthusiast? Throw into the basket a deck or two of cards, some poker chips, table cloth made of green felt material, some cigars, a couple of six-packs of beer, and you have your Poker Night holiday gift baskets!

For sure, you can buy holiday gift baskets in most shops. This is an especially useful tip to know when you are in a rush and have dozens of dozens of people in your list to shop for. Nothing beats making your own holiday gift baskets, however because the recipient will appreciate it more, knowing that you took the time to do make something very personal for them. That makes the few dollars you spent buying all the goodies, wrapping paper, ribbon, and yes, the basket, seem significantly like more. They will love it, and you will love it, too!
